Since the last upgrade the top right corner of my desktop shows the usual Activities button, but now there's also BaseActivity written next to it in white color.
I've tried removing this text by deleting the name of the activity and restarting plasma but it's still there.
My preference goes to a clean desktop, ideally even the icon for activities shouldn't be there or appear only when the mouse is in the right corner.
Second issue : in the activities setup the text of buttons and textboxes is black so I can't read it as my background is black too. Not a big deal as I usually don't use this, but it doesn't seem consistent for a kde configuration dialog not to use the proper colors set by the kde theme.
I would recommend updating to KDE 4.8.2. With regards to the text colour - if you can still reproduce please file a bug report as that needs to be fixed.
The name "BaseActivity" is the name you have set for the activity you are currently using.
Thanks, I'll check out as soon as 4.8.2 hits debian sid if the text color issue is fixed.
Regarding the BaseActivity name, I didn't set it and as mentioned above I replaced it by an empty string. I did this in the the activities config seen in the 2nd screenshot and checked several times it was indeed deleted, Still the BaseActivity text remains even after restarting Kde or rebooting the computer.
May I recommend reporting this behaviour as a bug, as the name "BaseActivity" is definitely an internal implementation detail which is being leaked into the user interface (and should not be).
