I have been having a problem with being able to keep the plasma 'Quicklaunch' window size the same upon each time I log-in to KDE 4.8.3. I have it up at the top of my screen and is sized rather small...about 3/4" in height (about a thumbs width) and centered horizontally on the screen. Each time I log-out of KDE (either with saving or starting a new session selected) that applet always changes size and gets to be about 5 inches with respect to vertical.

I know it's easy to resize it via the pop-up corner re-size control, however, I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem with this applet or possibly others like it and if so any methods on how to 'pin' that puppy down to remain the same each time upon log-in.

Is there a script file within ~./ that I can edit to manually set and 'lock' it's position each time?

The position changing will very likely be related to the change in size. If you fix the changing of the size, the position change will be fixed as well.

Just to test, if you create a new Quicklaunch applet, does it experience the same problems? (You can leave your existing Quicklaunch applet in place)

Tnx for the reply....I was out of town, so I apologize for the delay.

This resizing happens even if I remove the current plasma app and then re-add it to the desktop. I might add that I am always in 'Folder View' mode rather than 'Desktop' mode so that might have something to do with it. I tried locking the applets into place via the appropriate command from the desktop icon in the upper right , however, it still changes sizes on me.

I have not tried any other 'launcher' type applets besides this one, so I will do that and see if it is just the QuickLaunch app or all/any of them. I will also change from Folder View to Desktop mode and see if that solves the problem.

If not, is there a config file I can possibly try and edit in my ~./kde4, .config, .local, or 'other' location to manually set it and possibly 'lock it' into place if neither of the above attempts work?

I attempted to reproduce this. Without locking my applets - and with no other applets near I was not able to reproduce this.
However I did test with a plain desktop.

Can you try to reproduce with the plain desktop?
