I have been using kde now since early versions of kde 4. I must say it is clearly faster and more stable, but not sure it is any easier to use. Some new functions, like activities look to me like solutions looking for a problem. I've read several posts and guides but can't for the life of me figure out how to use them, even I could see if they would help me.

However, what I really want to do - and surely this must be high up on any desktop power user's list - is to open a specific application on a specific monitor of a specific virtual desktop. Now that WOULD make life a whole lot easier. Again, searched and searched but no decent solutions have come up - apologies if the exact answer is already available.

Foe example - I have 4 virtual desktops - Contact (virtual desktop 1), Media (2), Office (3), and System(4) - reasonably self-explanatory.

So, what I want is for Firefox, with my wife's Gmail and pinned tabs, to open on boot-up on the left-hand monitor of Contact (virtual desktop 1) and Chrome with my Gmail open on the right-hand monitor of the same virtual desktop. At the moment they both open on top of one another and I have to dragged one to the other monitor and resize it every time I boot up (one monitor is 1920 and the other is 1024).

Same goes for multiple apps on the other desktops. So, for example, if i click on the GIMP icon, I want kde to switch to virtual desktop 2 (Media) and open the GIMP on the left-hand monitor of Media (2) then I click on Kedenlive and it opens on the right-hand monitor of Media (2) - and so on blah blah.

Can I do this? Any help really appreciated.

It's indeed possible with desktops, by configuring specific window rules (System Settings > Window Behavior). But not with specific monitors, as far as I know.
