Hi, the image above will tell almost everything about my little problem. On the KDE panel , I didn't do anything to got this 2 softwares ( smaller icons, pointed by me with violet arrow on the screenshot ) who add themself at reboot in the panel bar. As you can see, I already have my own shortcut to Dolphin ( and the Pastebin one ) , so I wonder why this one is creating another shortcut for Dolphin and for Rekonq, even more mysterious issue as it's even not my default webbrowser.

Where does this behavior come from ? How to desactivate it ?
Thanks for the future answer :)

Distrib : Kubuntu 12.04
(Note: Right-click on them and select ' remove this launcher' doesn't solve the problem , but workaround. The icons reappear at next sessions witch is annoying because as a user I don't feel 'in control' with my desktop. )

I think those launchers are in a quicklaunch widget (note the size vrs your shortcuts) , try right click "remove this quicklaunch"

I clicked the little "yellow activitie swirl" like that :

Image

to enter in a sort of 'edit' mode of the panel element. The panel reveal me only 2 elements each other and nothing 'in between' ; so, on left my shortcuts ( Pastebin and Dolphin ) , and those unwanted reduced icons are part of the 'Task Manager' on right ( who takes 70% of the width of my bar , and manage my reduced / minimised / grouped windows. ). I tried to right click and access to the 'Task Manager Settings' ; but I found no option related to those 'iconified auto shortcut at startup'.

Image

Note : If I click on this 'iconified auto shortcut at startup' , they smoothly transform into a reduced windows in the Task Bar ; so another proof for me they are part of the Task Manager / Task bar widget.
Note 2 : When I close them , they return as a icon ...

Thanks in advance for any other ideas

Found it how to solve while googling for "task manager iconified task kde4"

watch the video here explaining very well the "feature" :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 6BJZLl9-E#!

How to solve :

1/ Expand/launch those iconified launchers by clicking on them.
2/ Right click on the related task bar entry
3/ Uncheck the "Show a launcher when not running"
4/ Done

Note : I will fill a bug report, because this option should be also available directly on right-clicking the iconified program. Not easy to discover else of that. Here I guess it's a Kubuntu 12.04 default setting to have Rekonq and Dolphin with this settings.

It is. When I right-click on this little icon I have two options: Task manager settings and Remove this launcher. The second of these removes launcher. No need of expanding it (running the app) before.

Sure, I have the dialog too Minio. But this option Remove this launcher wasn't persistent after a reboot. The other seems to be.
Certainly a permission access to modify a configuration/preference file.

Thanks Deevad, this has been bugging me for ages, now it works a treat.
I agree also that it would be nice to stop the little icons with out having to launch the program.

@Boast: Which applet are you using? The Task Manager or another applet such as Icon Tasks?

Nm. Figured out I have to uncheck it for every single app.

This worked for me.
Change details in ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc:

Code: Select all

browser=preferred://browser, , ,\s
filemanager=preferred://filemanager, , ,\s
