Hi,
I just got KDE 4.9 on my Kubuntu. Nice surprise! In the Plasma Workspace announcementhttp://kde.org/announcements/4.9/plasma.php I could read "including the addition of Activity-related window rules" So is it possible to link a certain windows to a certain activity? In my specific case I would like to make inkscape, gimp and kile always open in the same activity, no matter from which activity I open it. The problem I encountered is that I am in one activity and start, lets say, Gimp. The splash pops up and I switch the activity to check emails while gimp starts. But the splash follows and when gimp finally appears it ends up on my email activity, and I need to first add my intended activity and then remove the email activity. |

Using window rules you can set activities to "force" so that the window will always appear in the selected activity. I have no idea what would happen if the activity was not running, though.

Now I found it. There were just too many options so I did not notice "Activity". I use "apply initially", so I guess it can be manually changed afterwards.
I tried starting from Search&Launch activity while the Kile activity was off. Super + Q showed that kile is still off, but when switching to it the kile window was there. Is there a comprehensive documentation about this in some wiki? Whats the difference between "Special Window Settings..." and "Special Application Settings..."? I also noticed: After starting kile later on and going to the settings as shown in the first screenhsot the activity setting was deactivated. Instead I had to go to System Settings -> Window Behavior -> Window Rules (coming back to the difference between Window and Application above: There are no "Application" rules). |
