I'm running KDE 4.8.4 under Deb Wheezy (7) amd64 w/ official Nvidia drivers. Whenever I start KDE now, the Desktop is in Folder view mode as I prefer but instead of seeing any icons I just get a scrollbar on the right edge of the desktop. Its as if KDE thinks I have my external monitor plugged in when I don't as this has only started happening since I tried using an external monitor in addition to my laptops internal one but the scrollbar appears every time I boot without an external monitor which is most of the time.

One workaround to this is to switch into Desktop mode and back to Folder view mode - that makes the scrollbar disappear and my desktop icons reappear. I've not tried deleting .kde yet but maybe there is a better solution to this or is this something I'd need to upgrade to 4.9 for or maybe this is something yet to be fixed?

Whilst I'm here could someone please tell me if under oxygen-settings 'Windows drag mode' is still set to 'Drag from all empty areas' under the latest 4.9 SC release? If so I'll be reporting that as a bug as it should be set to 'Drag windows from title bar only' not just because thats what everyone expects but it causes malfunctions in various program ie try drag selecting multiple clips under qtractor in 'empty areas' mode - you can't so you need to know about this hidden option to fix KDE's behaviour.

Yep - that is the same no icons/scrollbar bug I'm experiencing. Reading that thread it sounds like the problem has been identified but it doesn't sound like its been fixed yet unless the bug hasn't been updated yet.

As for the window drag mode setting, I don't want to upgrade KDE on my Deb testing installs so can you recommend a live distro that features the latest and pref. near a possible to stock/upstream KDE so I can check myself if no-one confirms or denies this is still the case?

Deleting ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop* then restarting KDE seems to be the current workaround for this but of course you have to reconfigure your panel and various other desktop settings after doing so.
