Hi all,
I have a strange icon problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I am running kde 4.9 on Kubuntu 12.04. What is happening is that most of my folder icons are missing in Dolphin when I activate a custom set. A few of them show up correctly, but most simply show a question mark where the icon should be. This only happens with folders, no other icons are affected. I've tried deleting the .kde folder with no luck. I was also able to create a new user identity on the same computer that does not have this problem. I'm assuming there's a screwed up config file somewhere causing this, but I have no idea where to look. Any and all help appreciated. |

try deleting the kde cache /tmp/var/kdecache-username - this should be done while your session is not running

Thanks for the suggestion, but no joy (and apologies for not responding sooner, I was out of town and away from my computer yesterday). I tried logging out of kde and signing in through a terminal to delete the cache, but nothing seems to have changed. Any other ideas? |

you could try running: kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental it rebuilds the system cache
also try as a diff/new user maybe the problem is the custom set? |

Does the icon set specify any fallback icon sets to use?
For example on my system, Oxygen specifies hicolor as the fallback theme to use:
You should be able to find a index.theme file with similar contents inside the directory containing your icon theme. If you installed it via Get Hot New Stuff, then it is probably located at ~/.kde4/share/icons...
