By "Task Bar" do you mean the System Tray or do you mean the Task Manager?

Sorry, don't know.
The icon is on the very bottom of the screen on the right hand side. Btw, I did once try to find out the proper names for the various parts of the Plasma screen but without success. |

Thanks,
I have only one item under "Accessibility", it opens a form with "Improve accessibility for disabled persons" it has 4 tabs, no "text-to-speech" |

that just means you have not installed Jovie (text to speech app) and that is not the source of the icon
can you describe or post a pic of the icon, pics must be hosted on a pic hosting site and linked here |

It's a solid blue circle with a white human figure, arms outstretched

what happens if you right or left click on it?
could you be running xfce4-accessibility-settings ? try this run xfce4-accessibility-settings then uncheck the enable box and then restart kde |

after enable accessibility in systemsettings did you disable everything (click defaults then apply) and then restart KDE?

Thanks for your patience in this.
Right click produces 5 options:- Enable screen reader, Speak text, speak clipboard, restore & quit. A left click invokes the Accessibility app. Resoring defaults and re starting kde doesn't change anything. |

weird I can't replicate your situation
did find this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/181815/h ... y-in-12-04 which indicates it may be QT related and enabled by your distro. there was a rug report submitted for it https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305151. the command sudo dpkg --purge qt-at-spi fixed it for the bug reporter |

This worked brilliantly for me as well. Many thanks. Now, if only Akonadi could be so easily tamed |
