hi
i had previously (probably with 11.04 kubuntu) a particular behaviour of the folder view plasmoid in the panel : when activating this plasmoid (left clic), the initial folder tree was displayed and with mouse hover on a subfolder, subsequent subfolders where displayed, just like on the desktop when mouse hover a folder icon (allowing either to navigate or to open) (click to view not selected) But now on my 12.04, i have NO folder view preview either with "clik to view folder" checked or unchecked in the folder view plasmoid configuration. do i have to change some other setting or is it a bug ? thanks kde 4.8.5 on kubuntu 12.04, updated daily. workspace tooltips enabled. thanks for advice |

In System Settings > Workspace Behaviour > Workspace, is "Show Informational Tips" enabled?

Having the setting enabled was the correct preference - and no reboot should be necessary. At worst logging out and back in again would have applied the setting change (although it should have been immediate).
Is it possible for you to try to update to KDE 4.10? It has been some time since the 4.8.x series has recieved an update, and it is possible that the corner case you are seeing has since been fixed.

hi
Well, could you suggest the best way to safely update kde to 4.10 in kubuntu 12.04 ? as i have quite frequent little bugs it could be a good thing but i feel concerned about possible difficulties doing so thanks |

I think a safe update is only possible if you have means to revert the update. * Make a full backup of your current machine, of which you know how to restore it. * Install ppa-purge * Continue as described here http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-sc-4.10 If anything goes wrong you can purge the added ppa. If there are problems that occur despite the purge (e.g. changes in config files of your home directory that are not compatible with the old kde software), you can restore the backup. |
