Not sure if this is the right place for this topic. Please forgive me if it's not
I just finally moved to Ubuntu 12.04 and am using the KDE desktop which I really like. I have configured it the way I like except I think I goofed up a couple things. I hope someone can help me figure this out. I have pulled my favorite/often used program icons to the taskbar. When I first was using this the active programs would show on the taskbar and I could switch between them by clicking on them. I must have done something because now they no longer show and I have to use Alt-Tab to switch from program to program. How can I fix this? While I was arranging my icons to the taskbar I pulled the "Show Desktop" icon to the taskbar and now it doesn't work, I can't move it, and it's sort of grayed out. I can barely read it and it just sits there. The only other thing I would wish is to have the clock at the far right, but I can't seem to drag it over there. Is that not possible? Thanks. I'm very glad I was urged to use KDE Greg |

fyi it's called the panel, the running tasks show in the task manager (or other) task widgets such as fancy, smooth or icon-only task managers
tasks not showing - could you have removed the task manager widget? if you haven't right click on it -> task manager settings -> general -> uncheck all filters -> ok show desktop - could you have moved it under the panel, not onto it? remove it and try again, when adding a widget to the panel a greyed out block will show where it will be placed clock at far end - you need to click the cashew (right most cashew looking thing) to enable widget moving also make sure you haven't locked widgets |

I'm very new to this so I have dumb questions
If I moved it under the panel, how do I get it out? Thanks for the quick reply G |

You were right I had put it under the panel.
I shrank the panel until it was revealed and then moved it to the side of the screen. There's one down. Ah-ha...I had removed the task manager widget. Found it and put it back Now just the clock to figure out Many thanks

if the widget is not completely covered you can right click the uncovered piece and click "remove this Show Desktop". Other option is to click the cahsew -> more settings -> auto hide, then with the panel hidden right click the widget and remove. To see the panel again just move the mouse to the sceen bottom and reverse the auto hide to "always visible".

When I try to move the clock over to the right it pops back to where it was when I let go of it.
