I actually use Kubuntu 13.04 with KDE 4.10 and are faced with this problem:

No icon (used for program start) on workspace can be moved or rearranged, once they are placed on the desktop.
This behaviour happened after adding the icon for "GParted" to the workspace.

Is there any solution?
Thanks for any hint.

yes, of course.
I can lock and unlock the widgets, but not move the icons.

One more information:
I have installed the weather widget yaWP and can move it if the setting for the widget is "unlocked".

@Ireyes: "nice" to hear that I'm not alone with this topic.

@google01103:
I had this behaviour also some weeks ago when I had installed the Beta release of KDE4.10.02 and thought this bug would be fixed later. So I went back to KDE4.9.5 and all was normal. But obviously it came back with the release upgrade.

I can't duplicate it, and I placed gparted on my desktop

@lreyes do you also use Kubuntu? 13.04?

can you try as a new user, there might be something in plasma config file that worked fine pre 4.10 but that 4.10 doesn't like and if so I would suggest reverting your desktop to the default are re-creating it

Sorry, but no change.
I installed a new user, and placed a link to Firefox (by drag and drop from KDE start menue) on the screen, but the same result:
it could be removed, but not moved once it was placed.

Same result also for my account after change of all settings to default.

found a bug report https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316733 also from a *buntu user, bug has neither been voted on nor confirmed

just a reminder you are using the popup bar that appears when hovering the icon, left clicking and holding on the space between the wrench and the x

I think the bug report is the same issue.

No, I didn't use the popup bar, but single left click and holding on the icon itself, as always before.

Many thanks for the hint. This helps.
But it is really hard to understand that this appeared only after a few days (I have checked this on another desktop also with KDE 13.04).

This change in behaviour is probably because you were either using the Folder View layout before, or had a Folder View applet on your desktop which occupied a large amount of space on it.

I suggest you try creating a Folder View applet on your desktops, or change your layout back to Folder View (if desired) which should restore the desired behaviour.
If you are already using the Folder View applet/layout, then I suggest checking the Display settings for the applet/layout and make sure "Lock in place" is not checked.

@ bcoocksley
Dear Administrator,
from my point of view the item is solved. As mentioned "left clicking and holding on the space between the wrench and the x" enables to move the icon.
Regarding the folder view applet: I'm quite sure that I didn't use this applet. I made a test with this applet, but I will not use it.
Thanks for the support.

I've got three computers, 2 were upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04, and one was a clean install. All three exhibit the same behaviour of not being able to rearrange icons directly.
I can move them by clicking on the space between the spanner and the X, but I hope this is sorted out properly.
