I'm among those who use the Folder View desktop layout, but I have one problem with it: Icons are too distanced. If I go to Folder View Settings -> Display, I have options to adjust the icon Size, Lines (of text under each icon), but no way to manually adjust the spacing on top of those options. I could visibly bring the icons closer to each other without them or their text overlapping, but it doesn't happen automatically and due to this I lose desktop space. In Dolphin icons are spaced much more correctly instead (at least vertically). Any override I can use to bring icons colder for the Folder View desktop?

If you are familiar with QML, then it may be possible for you to modify the Folder View applet (which is now written in QML I believe, at least in part) to suit your needs. The spacing (for both horizontal and vertical) is probably a QML property.
Unfortunately I can't verify this with the developer(s) of the Folder View applet right at the moment.

If it requires hacking, no thanks. I was hoping there might be a hidden setting or some other option. If there isn't I can live with it like this, even if I hate losing desktop space. |

I've just checked, and it seems that the QML based version of Folder View i've seen hasn't actually been merged into master yet, so it isn't in KDE 4.10.
In terms of the code - the spacing is hardcoded at "10" i'm afraid.

I have 4.10.2. But this is something I should add to feature requests perhaps. Thanks for the info. |

And what about kde 4.11.2 (opensuse 13.1) ?
It is necessary to adjust icon spacing with text label width. Example of my icon text label "FREENX REINSTALL ALL" on my desktop folder : FREEN X REINST ALL ALL Any help is welcome |

I'm afraid I don't know the status of the QML version being merged in - the version included in KDE 4.12 still appears to be the C++ version, which has the hardcoded spacing of 10 i'm afraid.

It is very very near to be a bug not to be able to adjust spacing. Regards |

I've contacted a developer. Can you please provide screenshots demonstrating the problem, and provide more detail concerning vertical/horizontal display?

Frst of all my question is not because the desktop appearance is not identical between kde 4.10.5 and kde 4.11.2 but why one could not set icon spacing. here is desktop from 13.1 server KDE 4.11.2 - font : adobe helvetica size 8 http://paste.opensuse.org/14661179 and 12.3 client KDE 4.10.5 - font : adobe helvetica size 8 http://paste.opensuse.org/59310387 On the server side, the first icon text is not really readable bad ====== ROUTE UR BBOX SJL expected ======= ROUTEUR BBOX SJL One cannot play with icon spacing to get text as readable as possible. In previous version you could. Thank you for helping |

I am seeing the same thing as jcdole on my openSUSE 13.1 system with KDE 4.11.3.
To get the text right I have to make the icons bigger. Icon size is just a bit too large for my taste. |

Opensuse 13.2 - KDE 4.14.4
Resizing icon to smaller size, give rediculous result. see : http://paste.opensuse.org/32356347 As every things are objects, resizing icons should resize text as well. |
