I have problem with my plasma, when I try to add new default panel or widget, screen gets black (I guess plasma is just crashing and shutting down) and I have to restart it manually. It happens every time, so I cannot add any widget etc to my screen. Any ideas what should I do to make it work?
PS: I'm total noob in linux. Edit: I have also a small question, why I cannot scroll pages etc by pressing middle mouse button on screen and moving mouse up and down? It works only when I click with middle mouse button on scrollbar. |

1) after a crash look at the file ~/.xsession-errors
also additional info can be useful in trouble shooting such as distr, version of KDE, gpu and graphics drivers used for graphics info in Konsole run: glxinfo|grep OpenGL 2) does middle button = scroll wheel? if so then just move the wheel up and down with out pressing like it was a button |

distro is kubuntu 13.04 freshly installed, with standard drivers. My Cpu is AMD Phenom X2 and graphics card is Radeon Hd 5770.
My scroll doesnt work really good, so I used it in windows in the way I said, but in linux it just doens't work like that. I don't know where can I find this file ~/.xsession-errors Can you tell me step-by-step how to do it? (Using dolphin if it's possible).

I think "Ph4raoh" may be referring to the type of auto-scroll that Firefox (and no doubt other applications) use. It's activated by middle mouse click, then simply moving the cursor up/down or left/right scrolls the page. Quite good, once you get used to it. |

Yep, you're right! |

it doesn't appear to exist in KDE (nor in Windows) and it does work in FF under Linux, if it's wanted as part of KDE bugs.kde.org should be checked and if not found a request made to open a specific file in the default text editor type:
the "&" opens the app in the background leaving the terminal session ready for other commands |

I found something like that in my .xsession-errors. Btw. Is that file cleared when you shut down computer? If yes, why my error log is full after starting system?
This is my whole error log. |

this is not something I have the knowledge to help with but your info provided will hopefully be useful so someone else who can
there's a couple of things to try: 1) in Konsole run:
2) if you're will to backup and reset you plasma desktop and panels to the default in Konsole run:

What should happen after that? Because for me nothing happened.
I did this (but I'm not sure if I did this properly) and I have still same issues. Now when I try to launch plasma-desktop in terminal (ctrl+alt+f1) it says:
I don't know what does it mean

1) there's no output as it's sent to the nether world (/dev/null) else a lot of extraneous stuff gets printed, the command rebuilds the KDE configuration cache
2) then it probably wasn't/isn't a badly formed plasma config file |

Thanks for trying to help. Maybe that new information which I added to last post may help?
Maybe It's something wrong with my installation dvd? Because it has some issues when i tried to install kubuntu. After first installation Grub wasn't working, after second installation it printed a wall of text, but system didnt start (but I reset my pc and it worked after that). |

if you think there was an issue with your install you might want to try again or try to just reinstall KDE, I don't use Kubuntu so I'm not sure how to but in the Kubuntu forum or on their irc channel someone should know
alt+ctrl+F1 is what known a virtual terminal it's used for command line only, it has no knowledge/way to run graphical apps (KDE or Gnome apps). when someone says open in a terminal they usually mean the Konsole app. note: to run an app you can use the Kmenu or alt+F2 (aka krunner) if you use Konsole then that Konsole session is locked to the opened app unless you suffix it with an "&" so that it opens in the background. |

Ok, so I'll try to reinstall kubuntu in few days... and If it won't work, I'll try to find another distro with KDE. Is there any good for newbies distro with kde?

hopefully someone will read this and figure it out by then
there's probably multiple threads on the forum already on best/easiest distro if you want to do something Kubuntu'ish then Mint, which like Kubuntu is based on Ubuntu would be a good option |
