My Setup:

Arch Linux x86_64 - Kernel 3.11.5-1-ARCH

I use Konqueror as my file manager - I use a panel with the Task Manager applet and it groups applications together by name.
I also use the Device Notifier applet for help with mounting and accessing USB sticks/CDs/DVDs etc.

For some time now - (I can't remember when this started) the device notifier has an annoying habit of it's window popping up and remaining there under some conditions. The only way to remove the pop-up window is to Click the Device Notifier applet.

The conditions are:
If I have several Konqueror windows open - I like to switch between them by Clicking the task manager group and selecting on of the Konqueror instances.
Every time I click on a Task manager group - the Device Notifier window pops up - and the only way to dismiss it is by clicking the Aoplet.
If I switch windows using Alt-Tab the Device Notifier window not pop up.

EDIT: I should say - it's not just when Konqueror has multiple instances in a group - it happens when other programs are grouped together too.

This is very annoying and I think it's a bug.

I can't duplicate (note: my task manager settings are not the exact same)

does it happen as a new user?

does it matter if an external device is attached?

How is the Device Notifier installed in your panel? Via the System Tray applet or independently? If it is via the System Tray, it is set to be Always Shown, or Automatic?

The Device Notifier is a selection in the System Tray settings.
However it appears under the Display section - under Extra Items.
If I look at the Entries section - there is no Device Notifier there - so I have no way to choose the Visibility.

However the problem is also there when I remove it from there and add the Device notifier as a separate applet to the Panel.

I've noticed the behaviour when there are no external devices attached and for example when I have a USB stick attached and it gets auto-mounted.

Okay, it seems like the timer which should trigger the applet to automatically close itself is not firing correctly. Can you confirm if this behaviour occurs if automatic mounting is disabled?

Yes - the same happens if disable auto mounting too.
I also tried clearing the flag for auto-mounting removable media too.

I'm not sure if I made it clear, but its not just the pop-up staying on screen, but also the fact that it pops-up every time I interact with he task manager's grouped programs.

The popping up when it hasn't been directly clicked / triggered by device connection is extremely unusual. If you create and setup a replacement panel, does this issue occur there? It sounds like you could have a layouting problem.

Hey thanks for that suggestion! That's fixed my problem.
I've created a new panel with the same settings and applets as the old one.
The new panel is behaving correctly.

So after just 2 days - the same problem has re-appeared
I don't think it's a good solution to create a new panel every time the problem comes back.

If you can persistently reproduce this - could you try removing applets from your panel until the issue disappears, so we can identify the applet that the Device Notifier is conflicting with?

Hi, I have the exact same Problem. It could be a Arch-specific problem as i also have Arch linux. I removed all applets except the window panel and the device notifier icon and the Problem still occurs. However removing and readding the device notifier applet fixed the issue (probably a better workaround than removing the whole panel). I did a diff on the plasma-desktop-appletsrc (screenshot), but it doesnt say much. The bug always reappears if i logout/restart. Hope i could help.

Okay, that makes me a little suspicious - this wouldn't be the first time a distribution had broken something due to incorrect packaging or patching.
Can you provide links to where Arch provides information concerning their packages (similar to Debian's packages.debian.org and OpenSUSE's build.opensuse.org)?

I've done a quick review of those and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary there. It is likely something which Arch is somehow triggering - if it is indeed Arch specific at all. This could include something like a newer version of X, etc.

Ok, deleting the .kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletrc file fixes this problem for me, but i really don´t know which entry caused it. Probably an update bug?
