Screensavers appear on startup

Fri Oct 18, 2013 1:27 pm
Okay this is an odd one. I just upgraded to Kubuntu 13.10 (KDE 4.11.2). I restart the computer and see this. :o

I have "Restore previous session enabled", but this never happened in Kubuntu 13.04. I'll see if it happens reproducibly, but I just thought I'd share now, since this was so strange!

Known bug since 4.10: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314859

You can find a workaround in the bugreport, comment#42: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314859#c42 .
In your case you would have to add "kdeasciiquarium.kss" to "Applications to be excluded from sessions:".

I have proposed a fix for this issue of popping up screensaver windows on login, but that has been just ignored upto now... :-(

Thanks wolfi323.

I find "Restore previous session enabled" finicky at the best of times. It never restores some programs (e.g. RSSOwl) and I have half my applications on the exclude list, because either they restore twice sometimes (because they have an autostart entry, e.g. guake), or they restore in a meaningless fashion (e.g. dolphin doesn't contain the previous directory). I should probably just turn it off.
