One day notifications in systray are rather big, another day they are small and beautiful. I don't know why this happens. Is there any way to choose size permanently?
Screenshot of big notify: http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/q4zuiwgqpv.png Screenshot of small: http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/qf8bgcu37c.png I have Chakra Linux now, but this issue occurs in all distros I've tried, such Gentoo and Arch. This began since 4.10 release. |

Could you check to see if you have any other notifications queued in the applet? These can be shown by clicking on the applet icon.

Sometimes there are many notifications in queue from deadbeef, kopete and other programms.
So, I've turned on my computer few minutes ago. Notifications are big. I've turned off notification manager from systray and added notification plasmoid onto panel. And my notifications became small! Screenshot: http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/idfadqbz1a.png UPD: restart - and notifies are big again! http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/yggcgxpt94.png UPD: I return everything back. There is section in ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc:
I've tried to add this section:
but it doesn't work. Notifications have old big size. (500x500 is just for example) |

Just wondering - were any of the notifications which were displayed from the various applications on system startup in need of that large amount of space?
It could either be a startup initialisation issue, or a efficiency fix, where the Notifications applet has saved the largest size it has had to use to avoid flicker / resizing the next time it needs to show a notification.

But why are notifications don't flickering after popups became small? I think it is optimal size. All kinds of notifications (deadbeef, kopete) displaying in small popups perfectly. |

It is likely that it is one notification which is causing it to expand to a large size - the vast majority of the notifications you see, especially the ones you see most often are not triggering this behaviour.
Have you tried clicking on the notifications applet to show the pending notifications which have been hidden?

Click on the notification applet: http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/68pp34o6e5.png
I thought issue can be caused by deadbeef, 'cause names of many groups I'm listening is rather long. And also I'm using this code in deadbeef's notify plugin: "By %a\n\nFrom album %b". Maybe \n is causing resizing? Newline is working perfectly in hot popups and doesn't work in notifications journal. UPD: I've turned on my computer and first notification was from Kopete - and it was large. |

Did the Kopete notification need to be large? If it did, then that is the cause - if not, then perhaps it is a bug in the Notifications applet.

I don't know. Maybe.
Also I can say that two buttons on the right ("View the message" and "Close") doesn't always big when the notification is big. And after notify became small all message notifications looks normal. I hate this! My KDE is perfect, but it's maddening. Sometime after turn on the computer and work notifications become small (but not always). It seems that there is some time quota for displaying big notifications. |

Okay. All I can suggest is trying to cause the notifications to lay themselves out again by attempting to change their size - this can be done using the drag handle in the top left corner of the notification.

I can't. Resize arrows don't appear when my cursor is on the top left corner. http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/67yg6wtqy2.png
I can only move notifies, nothing more. Resize arrows appear only in the journal of notifications: http://upyourpic.org/images/201310/rxuwf38dc3.png but this doesn't affect on anything. |

Okay, i'm not sure if there is much that can be done then - other than filing a bug report against Plasma to request the sizing logic be adjusted to contract the size more aggressively.
