Hello there,
I think this issue might have been posted before. KDM loads up perfectly fine and I can log in. After the KDE splash screen disappears, I have a black wallpaper/desktop with a mouse cursor that I can move around and I can use the right click menu, so that means I can access xterm. There is also a New Activity text on my desktop. I have just installed KDE as a new installation, not an upgrade. Thanks! Ethan |

Sounds funny. Maybe you don't have installed it completely?
* Try moving ~/.kde4 away and retry. * Look in ~/.xsession-errors for any messages which seem relevant. Greetings, Sven

Are there any other activities available when you right-click on the desktop and select "Activities..."? If yes, try to switch to one of them. Or create a new one there from one of the templates. Otherwise you could also configure it yourself. I would start with adding a panel (also in the desktop's right click menu). |

Hello there,
Even after all the fixes you suggested, there is stil a black screen. The ~/.xsession-errors can be found here: http://bpaste.net/show/145309/ Activities does not show anything. In the xsession errors file it says something about mysqld, and about some kde daemon that can't start up among many others. When I turned on the computer I just right clicked to go to the Run Command and ran xterm. Then I wgetpasted the xsession-errors file. Thanks for your help! Ethan |

"KCrash: Application 'plasma-desktop' crashing..." the log says, that's quite probably the reason for the problems I guess.
Is dbus running? I know that in the past you had to enable it by hand on arch, however I guess nowadays systemd enforces it's active...

Hello there,
Yeah, dbus is running. I checked it by running "sudo systemctl" and finding dbus.service. I found it and it says that it is "loaded active running". So that probably means that it is working. Any ideas? Ethan |

This sound similar to your problem, maybe you could try to change the default fonts in System Settings? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 2#p1124292
It would be helpful if you could post a screenshot as well. It sounds like Plasma Desktop is actually running, otherwise you shouldn't be able get a menu when right-clicking on the desktop.

Seems like you're missing all icons as well. Which KDE packages do you have installed, and how did you install them?

That is severely broken. Please make sure the appropriate oxygen-icons packages are installed.

Hello there,
1st thing to get out of the way: I installed KDE using pacman -S kde. 2nd: Even after reinstalling oxygen-icons, it still doesn't work. 3rd: After running the pacman -Syu kde-meta-kdebase (or something like that) it doesn't work. Thanks for your continued help! Ethan |

Can you please try to reinstall the KDE packages with
and post the output here? (You may want to do a pacman -Syu first.)

Hello,
The output of pacman -S kde can be found here: http://bpaste.net/show/146024/ I just did pacman -S kde --noconfirm > output and wgetpasted the output file. You won't see any progress bars or anything like that. Thanks! Ethan |
