KDE plasma won't shutdown

Tue Nov 05, 2013 7:33 am
Hi folks,
I seek a solution for an error with kde plasma.
System: Toshiba Satellite / i5 / 6gb ram / Intel 4000 display driver.
Single disk, 2 ntfs and 1 linux partitions. Dual boot with windows 7.
Installed Fedora gnome 19 first and added KDE plasma for additional
session. Everything is upto date.

Problem: When I log in to KDE after booting, the mouse pointer shows busy activity. If the pointer is busy for 10 seconds, everything will be
fine, no problems. If the pointer is busy for more than 10 sec. and upto 80 sec., there is a problem. The shutdown/ logout/ restart functions
won't work. If I click on the respective icons no dialogue box appears; also I can not access the ntfs disks, with an error message saying an
unexpected error happened.

Gnome works fine always, though sometimes with a single jerk when showing the wallpaper when i log
into. Only when I login the jerk shows; afterwards no jerks and works fine.

I am not an expert in linux, a new comer. Any expert guy out there to direct
me to properly configure KDE?

Can you please compare the contents of ~/.xsession-errors from a successful login session, and an unsuccessful login session?
It sounds like some interprocess communication might be failing - which would explain why the NTFS disks are inaccessible, and why you cannot logout.
