I am looking for a widget for the panel, that will open a list of application launchers. As far as I remember, in KDE3 (and GNOME) there used to be one called 'Drawer', which did exactly that, but I haven't been able to find anything like it in KDE4. It used to be the main way I organised my tools - I would have a drawer, say, for my OpenOffice templates, with one launcher to start Write with one of my letter templates, which I found very convenient. And the advantage of the drawer is that it only takes up 1 icon's space on the panel.

google01103: I tried shelf already, but it seems to be limited to listing a fixed set of categories, which isn't useful to me. I tried it is different way, but none of the categories are useful; the only one that looked promising, was "Applications category". When I add a new submenu in the menu editor, it is visible in "Applications category", but while I can add the submenu to the shelf, its content is invisible. The other submenues work fine, but not the ones I add myself.

maybe this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327035 maybe if you created a directory structure for you launchers (or maybe use the existing Desktop folder) you could use the "quick access" widget to access it I think Shelf is the only Drawer like widget currently available |

Yes, that sounds a lot like the same thing.
I could create a directory structure, as you suggest, but for the pain of it. Every time I think of it, I feel a pain like wildfire searing through my veins, and then I usually wake up three weeks later in a hospital, having lost all my hair. I'd rather not go down that route; oh, too late .... |
