Hello

i noticed something strange on my pc : each time i click on pidgin's contact list it opens the notification pannel for peripherals/medias, the pannel is always opened and empty, the window title being 'there's no media available'.
Can you please help me understand why ? I guess that too many events are catched, or maybe dbus does something wrong.
i'm using openSUSE 13.1 and KDE SC 4.12.0, pidgin is 2.10.7.

By contact list you are referring to the Pidgin icon in the system tray? If so, is it next to the Notifications applet, or is the Notifications applet further away / hidden?

for example : if i open pidgin, i have some unread messages, that i erase. Then i need to use the contact list window (kde notification app is hidden) i click on the contact list and the notification pannel of kde pops up (the notification applet of kde is then 6 icons away from pidgin's icon , and visible)

That the notification applet has become visible indicates that it may believe that a new device has been connected to the system - otherwise it wouldn't request attention (and be made visible).

Just to confirm - switching to the contact list window does not involve any interaction at all with the system tray or panel?

I am suspecting that Pidgin could possibly be causing UDisks to either launch or crash - and when it restarts this triggers the notification applet. Is there any indications in dmesg or /var/log/messages that a process is crashing?

i'm not sure if it's the system tray or not, in order to open pidgin's contact list i need to click on the soft's icons and then on the contact list window (with the purple bird icon).

actually i just realised that any window of pidgin does open the kde applet, not only the contact list one :
I have 2 windows opened for pidgin : the opened irc , jabber etc ... discussions and the contact list, switching from one to another opens the kde applet for new devices.

If i use the config options of KDE i can choose not to see anymore the notifications of new devices, which is logical and works ok for pidgin and other softs that are opened (no more intrusive pannel 's popping up), but it's not the behaviour i'm expecting, for i want the notifications of new devices, and not being disturbed by pidgin .

Can you please run the command "udisks --monitor" and try changing windows in Pidgin to see if that triggers anything?

If you open the notification panel for devices manually, does it appear from the same location? It looks like you might have a duplicate applet...

I would suggest reviewing the contents of plasma-desktop-appletsrc and plasma-desktoprc in a text editor, searching for "notifications" and "devicenotifier" respectively - you should only have one of each. These files can be found in ~/.kde4/share/config/.
