I am running Kubuntu 13.10 KDE 4.11.3.
I have three panels --- all at the top of the screen. The left panel is left aligned, the center panel is center aligned and the right panel is right aligned. -Left Panel (Left Aligned)- -Center Panel (Center Aligned)- -Right Panel (Right Aligned) - There is a task manager followed by a pager followed by a timer in that order from left to right in the right panel. -Task Manager-Pager-Timer- When I log back in, every time, the sequence changes to -Pager-Timer-Task Manager. What is happening. How do I set it right?

I've just tried a right aligned panel with Task Manager / Pager / Timer and the layout is maintained on re-login. However I'm using KDE 4.12.0
Possible config file corruption? Rename the "plasma*rc" files located at "~/.kde4/share/config/" to "plasma*rc.001" or some such name. Re-Login, you'll have the default settings, see if the problem is still present. |

Sorry, it took me so long.
I removed everything from the right aligned panel and added only task manager and timer widgets there. Now, it works fine. But there is problem with my left aligned panel now, It has the K Menu, Num/ Caps lock indicator, CPU Temp Indicator, System Tray and Pager. On re-login, the spacing between these is gone. The System Tray kind of expands and occupies a lot of space pushing the Pager farther. Is there any way to set this right?

Can you provide a screenshot of the system tray taking up an incorrect amount of space?

OK.
Here is the snapshot: In case if the thumb tag above does not work, here is the link: https://plus.google.com/photos/11483749 ... vCu06PjsAE A few points: There are three panels. Upto System Tray is one panel that is left aligned. Date/ time is the second panel that is center aligned. To the right of that is third panel that is right aligned containing the task manager and timer. Hope this helps.

Can you please check the panel size controls to ensure the panel is set to a suitable minimum/maximum size - preferrably with no option for it to change in size?

Sure.
The left panel extends from the left edge of the screen to the start of center panel. The minimum and maximum size for it is set to be the same. The right panel extends from the end of center panel to the right edge of the screen. The minimum and maximum size for it is set to be the same. For the center panel also, the minimum and maximum panel size is set to the same length.

Okay. Does subsequently resizing the panels cause the system tray to return to a more correct size? My guess is that it is consuming the space as it is the only "flexible" applet you have added to that panel - the other ones are all static in terms of the amount of space they use for a given panel height.

Yes. That is my guess, too.
When I remove any widget and re-add it, things get back to normal. But in my view, it is a bug. A flexible width widget does not have the responsibility to fill the entire panel, IMHO.

I vaguely recall having a similar problem quite a while back...
Try adding a "Spacer" between the widget and task manager, (or task manager and end of panel) expand the spacer to "fill" the area task manager expands to, ensure the spacer is set to "flexible". |
