For issues with performance I need turned off the desktop effects. But when I turn it off I experience heavy cursor flickering in Eclipse (IDE) and gvim. Its almost impossible to work with these programs under these conditions. I also noticed flickering when I hover over close/minimize/maximize buttons in the window.
Can this be fixed somehow?

My configuration: Ubuntu 12.04 with KDE 4.8.5. Graphics card ATI Radeon HD 5750 (up-to-date proprietary driver)

Edit: This does not happen from start but rather something triggers it. As soon as it happens again I will post here contents of
Code: Select all
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

from your two posts, i assume you've major issues with the graphics drivers, eg. the mousepointer should be done in HW and directly injected into the frambuffer.
I suggest to start by pasting /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of glxinfo
