ps ax | grep lancelot
if it's empty, what happens if you try to start "lancelot"? |

does a "lancelot" process run afterwards and is there a "qdbus | grep -i lancelot"? |

(if you re-add the plasmoid to the panel or desktop or whatever) - do you now get places etc.?

I notice a number of applications aren't found by Lancelot. Are Krita, System Settings and KInfoCenter installed on your system?

Can you please delete the entire contents of /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/ outside of KDE?
Also, are you able to start one of those applications outside of Lancelot?

already done and done again now terminating the kde session, also killing kdm and removing /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/* from tty1 as root.
Yes, both from kickoff and lancelot, with alt+f2 and other methods. Everything is working fine here except that Lancelot still doesn't show places. Are you sure that there aren't other files in my home used by Lancelot? |

I'm afraid there are none that i'm aware of. Places data should be retrieved from the same place used by Dolphin and other applications (where I assume it is displayed correctly).

The only thing that I can say is that Lancelot uses the "kfileplaces/bookmarks.xml" to find out which items to show the places. It skips only the items marked as "IsHidden".
What happens if you move the bookmarks.xml somewhere else (ensuring that no kde application runs beforehands)? |

Did you archive the file?
viewtopic.php?f=67&t=120809#p308892 There might be a bug in lancelots parsing if a) the file looks correct b) places were shown in dolphin (that should use the same file as all of KDE) |
