kubuntu plasma 100% CPU loading

Sat May 03, 2014 4:00 pm
Since the recent major version update on kubuntu I get 100% CPU loading which top associates with the plasma desktop.

Also running is baloo_file_extr.

I have disabled my home dir from search as mentioned in a post, and this made an enormous difference to responsiveness, but top still shows 100% loading.

Suggestions please.

some plasmoid running wild?
log out, move away ~/.kde/share/config/plasma*, log in and check the cou load.
if it's "normal", you'll have to figure which plasmoid is the culprit (anythng additional, 3rd party ones?)

If there's also much X11 load, some plasmoid will update continuously, you can use the "show paint" kwin effect (kcmshell4 kwincompositing, 2nd tab, disable v'sync in the 3rd tab!) to highlight it (be warned that the effect causes heavy flicker!)

Code: Select all
kquitapp plasma-desktop
valgrind --tool=callgrind plasma-desktop

might point the calling part otherwise.

In terms of the Baloo load - what is the full name of the process?
