I've attempted to add a couple of the pre-installed widgets to my desktop which fetch data from online (LCD weather and microblogging), but they don't seem to be able to access the internet, as you can see:
I've tried rebooting, which didn't help. No special network configuration is active; connected to WiFi normally. I do remember that I've tried this while connected through my ethernet port and the widgets didn't work then either. I have OpenVPN connections set up but none are active currently. Oddly, the microblogging widget accepted my Twitter information as if it was able to log in through the API, but it can't retrieve or post any tweets (again, no error when attempting to post one; it just erases the text I've written into the box. Could simply be bad error handling on the part of this widget's creator, though). Is there anywhere I could view a log file for these widgets or run them from the command-line to see their output? Thanks! |

Is Konqueror able to access the web?

I didn't have Konqueror installed, so I installed it and it was indeed able to access the web. Re-adding the widgets to my desktop after Konqueror had been installed didn't fix them.

Okay. Can you try the Web Browser / Web Slice applet to see if it is also affected?
I assume your internet access is direct, and does not require the configuration of a proxy?

The Web Browser and Web Slice applets work correctly. Also, interestingly, I added the "Weather Forecast" widget to my desktop and it worked appropriately whereas "LCD Weather Station" still did not, even though they were supposed to be fetching data from the same place (wettercom).
And yes, direct connection to the internet. |

With what service are you attempting to use the Microblogging applet? As for the LCD Weather Station, I believe it doesn't work with the Wetter backend for some areas - as it doesn't provide the necessary data. You need to use another source for your location in that event.
