I want to tile center of the widget. There is a hint tile center, but as it seems it has only impact on the vertical dimension, while i want to tile both horizontal and vertical. Is there a way to do that, or it is just yet another limitation of plasma themeing?

Ok, there is no way. I'm frustrated now. Plasma themeing has some serious limitation!
