KDE 5

Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:05 am
Hi, I'm rather new to KDE (I tried it in the past but it was too heavy on my laptop).
I've read good things about the new KDE 5 and I'd like to install it, as I'm fed up with Gnome 3 and its tablet-focused interface...
So I was wondering when is it supposed to be feature complete (I've been told that at the moment KDE 5 installs in /opt and has some performance issues, plus the Breeze theme is incomplete).
Thanks in advance

At the moment it is not known when it will be complete - however a first release for early adopters has been made, and work is continuing on improving it. Please note that there will be no "KDE 5" however there will be "Plasma 5" and associated applications (which have yet to be given a release name).

Thanks for your reply. Do you think installing it now and keep upgrading it (I'm using Arch Linux) would lead me to the same result as if I installed the final release? I've read the transition from KDE 3 to 4 wasn't very smooth, and the different path (opt) makes me wonder...
