Hello KDE devs,
I have a little problem that I would like to bring to your attention, I understand plasma 5 is a development version but I presume when I try it, it should not resemble the initial pencil sketches of other masterpieces! I have a HD Ready 720p by Samsung (4-5 years old), and can normally expect a poor quality monitor but my issues seem to be increasing exponentially with every new update of any linux graphical software. The attached picture is with the live USB stick and also a minimal Trusty Ubuntu with all the upgrades and bells and whistles. I have used regular xserver-x***-video-ati & F***X (FGLRX) to no avail presently. Have a goosey gander at the attached picture to see for yourself. ( I have a picture but I do not know how to attach ) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater ( Amuzingly perhaps I can barely read the screen to check for a better forum to post, but if the PNG I have uploaded looks crystal clear and eloquent to yourselves please accept my apologies for your time) Kind Regards, Dragon on the Razzle |

fb isn't necessarily the best picture paste location (can't determine the image dimensions) but from your explanations and since you're apparently use a Tv as display, I assume the issue to be a wrong resolution, post scaled by the Tv.
This can be due to globally wrong resolutions (ie. if you connect via vga rather than dvi/hdmi, TVs often announce XGA, ie. 1024x768) or overscan compensation (you're using 720p, but the Tv blows that up a bit to hide the edges where analogue Tv signals often carried meta-info) Both can be compensated in the driver, but should ideally be fixed at the screen. Use a digital interface, turn off overscan and ensure to not fetch 4:3 for anamorphic interpolation on the screen (for the latter check "xrandr -q" to indicate the desired as current resolution) If you've a second machine and can ssh into the one attached to the Tv, this will help you around reading issues. |
