Hello, just created a account here.
I'm currently using Ubuntu with Unity and I want to move away from that. Now I want to use KDE for a time because it seems the only desktop which is running smooth without lags but I noticed some "strange" behavior. When I use KDE on for example Kubuntu 14.04 or the new openSUSE 13.2 it seems that plasma-desktop is growing and growing as the system is used. Also some other processes as Xorg and Amerok are increasing in RAM. Now I have plenty of RAM installed in my desktop PC and in my laptop, but is this normal because Unity or Gnome doesn't show this behavior. |

no ideas but more information might be helpful
could you provide: - the growth in plasma ram usage at start and after it grows, inc both memory and shared memory amounts - same for xorg and for Amarok - do you reboot you session daily? hibernate? suspend or leave it on always? - is your desktop performance affected by this? - maybe graphics chip and driver I've notice that xorg tends to grow but I always attributed it to my hibernating nightly |

RAM is there to be used. To just leave it alone would be an uneconomical use of it. I've got 16GB RAM (was cheap at the time). I've just switched on my desktop computer and have already used 4.3GB (KDE, the mozilla stuff and loads more). I'm sure it will increase once I start working.
Question for you is: does the performance suffer? If not, I wouldn't worry about use of RAM and instead pride myself on a computer which makes the absolute best use of it But there is no harm letting us know your video set-up as google suggested
