Running Fedora 21 KDE spin. plasma-desktop --version produces:
Qt: 4.8.6
KDE Development Platform: 4.14.3
Plasma Desktop Shell: 4.11.14

Is it possible to try Plasma 5? Can it work on Qt 4.8.6/ KDE Development Platform 4.14.3?

I will need a solution that is easy and reversible.

Also, why so many different version numbers? So confusing!!

normally you can't install both 4 & 5, I don't know 'bout Fedora (you could post there) but you can in openSUSE just peruse this thread https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/499607-KDE5

another option is to use VirtualBox and install a distro with only KDE5

OpenSuse Leap 42.1 x64, Plasma 5.x
