I'm on a Core I5, Ubuntu 14. Unity was too slow. I'm new to KDE but I love how fast it is. Please help me resolve some smallish problems I'm having.
1. No Sound through laptop speakers, but the headphones work. I tested both YouTube in browser and playing a media file saved to my laptop. 2. I need to type in Hebrew sometimes. But (I don't like that) some parts of the interface are now in Hebrew. I didn't have this problem in Ubuntu (or did and then fixed the problem, but I don't remember how) ..... E.g. Audio and Video Settings, it says "sound card", "profile", "sound device", "connector" in English, but in each case it lists the "sound device" in Hebrew, lists the "profile" in Hebrew. ..... The interface for Gedit is all in Hebrew ...... When I go to download a file (DownThemAll) the filebrowser window in the select folder is oriented right to left, and the "create a new folder" button is in Hebrew. 3. When I attempt to install software via Ubuntu Software Center, I am "rejected" because it says "You do not have permission" and does not ask me for the password. |

a bit of help
1) you may need to change the output port to line out from headphones, you can do this with the veromix widget (or systemsettings -> multimedia) - I don't have a laptop so I can't state why this isn't done automatically. This would be best posted on the Graphics & Multimedia forum asking why the switch is not automatic. 2) - Gedit is not a KDE app so the language selection may need to be made in the Gnome control center (can't remember what it is called), you should look at Kate as a replacement it is an amazing piece of text editing sw. - I would suggest starting a new thread in Workspace specifying the issue with Hebrew text in the subject 3) Again not a a KDE issue but this time Ubuntu see http://askubuntu.com/questions/333919/n ... are-center & http://askubuntu.com/questions/257948/h ... oftware-ce fyi - please don't clump issues together but separate them and place them in the appropriate forums with descriptive subjects to help insure they won't be overlooked by someone with the appropriate knowldege who can help |

if you go systemsettings -> mutimedia -> audio & videos settings -> device configuration -> connector -> select line out and then perform the speaker test do you hear anything?
Google'ing shows a number of sound issues similar to yours, this one looks interesting https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthrea ... Jack-Works |
