I have had this error for a very very long time. Since I started using Plasma 5 and each time ultimately I've reinstalled my OS .
I run KDE with Plasma 5 on top of Fedora 22 . Everything's updated at the time of this post. I notice, that after sometime of using KDE , my desktop boots to a black screen. Here are the details in order : 1. I login with my credentials from SDDM and select Plasma from there as the shell. 2. I get that fancy looking 'loading' bar. 3. I get a black screen now. 3.1 On top I get the notification that 'Yakuake' has started and that I can use it with my configures shortcut. 3.2 KRunner works. It saves me everytime. 3.3 KWin also works fine. 3.4 All apps like Dolphin, Google Chrome, Konversation open up as they should. I don't mind the black screen but I need the bottom plasmoids from the bottom tray like device notifier, power management etc. I start the desktop using 'kstart plasmashell -ap org.kde.plasma.dekstop' , but that only starts the desktop but not the bottom bar/tray . In order to connect to wifi I have to do 'kde5-nm-connection-editor' , and connect from there. I deleted the ~/.cache but to no avail. How to get around with this. |

The panel is part of plasmashell, it would seem the config is garbled (and that may be related to the crash on start?)
Try to move away ~/.config/plasma*rc - *before* starting plasmashell
