Hi,
short prologue: I have the very same problem of this user: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337155 I understand that has been closed as WON'T FIX and I understand the reasons why, but still I'm stuck with the problem. Detailed story: I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 LTS and using NetworkManager and Plasma-nm applet to manage and use lots of VPN connections. It's nice to have all those VPNs in one place without wondering every time what kind of vpn software is using each customer (at least for the ones supportedt by NM, vpnc, openvpn, etc). The problem I have is about usability, depending on the combination of these factors: - cannot change/upgrade distro - I have quite a number of VPN entries (more than 40) - they do not seem to be sorted in a practical way for my scenario, apparently they show up in a different order at every login - there is not a search feature - the connection editor offers such features (categorized and sorted entries, search), but has no "Connect" feature When the number of VPNs I need to use started growing, it became a pain to scroll an unsorted list looking for the right entry, sometimes I resort to use a bash function that basically does this:
but this kind of defeats the purpose of using the applet. I also tried patching the applet myself (kubuntu source: plasma-nm-0.9.3.3), but without much success. Is there anything I can try (upgrading the distro excluded)? Any suggestion on which file(s) I should peek in? (what I tried on Model::insertItem ended up in a list of blank entries or no effect) Any help would be well appreciated. Thanks Bye |
