Any Qt5 (note, Qt5 only. Qt4 apps look fine.) when run over SSH's X11-forwarding take on an ugly theme and nearly no icons.

Running systemsettings5 shows that the theme and icons set to Breeze (what I want).

export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=kde

notice that if it's not actually KDE (4 or 5), applications with systray icons will be broken.

Code: Select all
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "kde"
in "".

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, xcb.

Is what I'm currently seeing when I try to set it to "kde" - Applications over X11 forwarding still have no icons or theme elements

In the remote SSH session:

Code: Select all
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=kde

works to display the proper theme and icons
