Applications won't start from menu

Fri Jun 03, 2016 3:24 am
Application path changed and no longer editable in KDE menu editor.

A number of programs now won't start from the menu. They require the full path entered in the kicker. What's more, editing the individual entries in the menu editor does not work. After saving, and exiting, the path is overwritten to the original setting. For example, clicking on Konsole in the menu results in this error:
Code: Select all
Sorry - Plasma Desktop Shell
Service 'usr/local/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop' is malformatted.

The correct path, however, is /usr/local/bin/konsole which works fine. The correct path is also in the default environment. This problem started after installing Virtualbox and persists after stopping that application. This same KDE installation has been functional for several years otherwise. I am using Platform Version 4.14.3 on FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p10.

My question is, what caused this to happen and how do I return the default path for applications launched from the KDE standard menu.
