I installed the widget Lancelot, but can't find it in the list of widgets. Where is it?

What is the Lancelot status ?
With the Debian based (*1):
Code: Select all
apt-cache policy plasma-widget-lancelot

With the plasma package manager(*2):
Code: Select all
plasmapkg --list | grep lancelot

At here, with the Debian Jessie:
Code: Select all
$ apt-cache policy plasma-widget-lancelot
plasma-widget-lancelot:
  Installed: 4:4.14.2-1
  Candidate: 4:4.14.2-1
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.14.2-1 0
        500 http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://http.debian.net/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Code: Select all
$ plasmapkg --list | grep lancelot

lancelot_launcher
lancelot_part

and the Lancelot is in the plasmoid browser:

I can't believe the detail over a widget.

Having been unsuccessful at installing Lancelot through the Desktop - adding widgets. I installed Lancelot through the Debain Package Manager. It installed without a problem.

I have tried to install Desktop Themes via Systems Settings, again without success. I am wondering if these can also be installed by another method

Plasmoids

You need to read the information what the GHNS is offering: The Lancelot is telling that it is part of KDE and you should install it from the distribution's package repositories...

Desktop themes

You need to tell the desktop theme name what you are trying to install.
