Hi all,

I need to disable the Plasma desktop but I still want to keep the panel (taskbar).

A while ago I found some settings to put in my home directory on some hidden files to do just this, but I cannot find the pertinent post anymore using google (new stuff now appears that is completely irrelevant for my purposes).

In the end what I would want is when KDE is running (after I log in) I get only the KDE pannel/taskbar and nothing more. This is so that my remote desktop viewer (Exceed on Demand) does not display any background (not even a solid color), just the taskbar. I think that if you connected using X you should see the default X root background (some BW checkered pattern) like when you have no window manager running (but the taskbar should still be there).

I had a working solution before but unfortunately I accidentally deleted some hidden files from my home directory and my solution is now lost (and I cannot find it again). My best recollection of the tweak is that it involved disabling the plasma desktop somehow...

I am on an RH EL6 machine that is using KDE 4.3.4.

Please help if any of this sounds familiar to you.

Thanks in advance.

Sugapes.
