I am using Activities heavily and have set up some shortcuts to for snapping the windows to all predefined layouts available. Recently I started finding it tedious, so having heard of tiling managers, I started experimenting:
  • awesome replaces the Plasma entirely
  • I did not succeed making i3 work perfectly, but Activities seem not to be functional
  • closest out of alternative window managers came xmonad, which was easy to set up, but made Activities non-functional too.
Alternatively I found:
  • x-tile, which seems to be an alternative solution, but with the need to use GUI for every tiling action, occasionally it may be slower than custom shortcuts.
  • finally kwin-tiling was exactly what I was looking for. But again, it does not support Activities! :-/
Is there any solution to preserve functional Plasma panels and Activities, and still does basic tiling automatically? Any alternative tool or setting of the ones mentioned I overlooked?
