Unable to select any 'Indian' keyboard layout

System Settings -> Input Devices -> Keyboard -> Layouts -> Configure layouts -> Add -> Layout = Indian -> Variant = Any variant will do -> Label = Any label will do -> OK -> Apply
Either the keyboard layout does not show in the System Tray. Or can not be selected. Or even when selected, I am unable to write in the Indian language chosen. How do I get the ability to write in Indian languages back? FWIW, till I 'up'graded to Fedora 26, I could write in ANY Indian language.
