My main (everyday) computer is running Linux Mint-17.3 with a KDE4 desktop. Although I'm also running Windows-10, Windows-7, Mint 18.2, and a few others, I still prefer the Mint-17/KDE4 environment for stability and availability.

I have 3 different activities (desktops) on this machine. Each activity is customized for a different functional requirement. But every time I reboot I have to go to each activity/desktop and put some icons back where I want them. The system seems to learn where some of them belong, but it puts others back where it wants them, and almost always overlays some right on top of others.

I have spent way too much time rearranging icons - a problem I've NEVER had with Windows.

Is there any command/script that I can invoke to FORCE KDE to remember where I want my icons ?

What kind of desktop are you using? the Standard (widgets-only) desktop or the Folder View desktop?
One possibility may be that when you log out it isn't saving the desktop layout properly. Are there any errors when you log out? You could try running "kquitapp plasma-desktop" followed by "plasma-desktop" (either in a terminal or in krunner) which should save the current layout settings for future use.

Thank you for that information - I will definitely give it a try. If it works I will make a script and run it at every shutdown.

Also, I am running folder-view. And, I do not have any errors on shutdown.
