opacity of plasmoid?

Thu Nov 20, 2008 4:39 am
When desktop effects are enabled you can make windows transparent. Is there a way to make plasmoids transparent. ie. the note plasmoid/widget

The look of plasmoids is handled through the plasma theming. And this is based on SVGs, so it is easy to set opacity, even without compositing. For a tutorial on plasma theming see http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tut ... asma/Theme

While it does seem easier to modify things as far as theming goes in kde 4.x that is a little more involved than I wanted. I dont need to "theme" to make windows more transparent so it would be nice if it was possible to do the same thing to widgets. Right click opacity done.

since plasmoids painting has pretty much nothing to do with composite, the only 'easy way' is trough theming.
making a plasmoid transparent at runtime well could be posible in theory, but would require an hell lot of code,
while not so hard to do for plasmoids that draws themselves like the clocks, a whole another thing would be for ones that have sub widgets, like buttons textboxes etc...
