Hello everyone, I like the global menu in kde3 and I tried KDE4.2 rc today and found nothing related.
What I want is a menubar widget which can be put into panel, and all applications show their menus in the menubar widget. This saves screen space, since I have lots of empty spaces in my panel, put the menu bar there is good. and all the applications no longer need to show menubar in themselves. I think such a widget should not be hard to implement, but we need to make applications not to show the menubar on its own window when the global menubar present. Is that possible in KDE4? |

I can't say that if it is possible but that would be a good idea.

I know that thread, but what I'm thing about is not "a global menu always stay on top", I'm saying "a global menu as a plasma widget", so that you can put it *anywhere* other than the top of screen. Being a plasma widget we'll be able to get the flexbility, I put it into a panel, I can drag the panel anywhere I want, e.g. put it on the bottom panel. This is the kind of global menu which takes no places, since you will need a panel anyway. If you don't want the top menu you just put the global menu in a widget in your bottom panel.

The KDE 4 version is a normal Plasmoid so you should be able to do everything you mentioned with it once it's completed. |
