Hello,

I miss some usefull google gadgets which I like to use as "plasmoid". Is there some where a documentation about the step which are needed to use a google gadget "under KDE"? In case this is not too complex I volunteer to transform some gadgets,

Thanks a lot

Google gadgets are compatible with Plasma and works with KDE 4.2.

You must install all Google Gatgets packages in your distro.

Thanks a lot

That Gadget is probably not available because it is hosted on a 3rd party site. Manually download it first, then open Add Widgets > Install New Widgets > Install Widget From Local File > GoogleGadgets:... and select the file. This will make it available in Add Widgets

Thanks,

I thought about this an tried it before the last posting, sorry I did not mention it since I thought that this is a stupid idea. How ever loaded that above mentioned side and after I tried to install it I got the error that this file can not be installed.

My question is how do I correctly download the gadget?

But unfortunately I have now a further problem... I updated to (KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1)) "release 78.1" and now all google gadget complain that libaries are not functioning the lib name starts with ggl_* also the option download/install goggle gadget in the plasmoid install window is gone...

Any hint? I will just open this as an extra thread here in the plasma forum - not sure if this is more install & config.

You probably have a Google Gadget - Plasma version mismatch. Please update all googlegadgets packages.

in YaST > Package Management. ensure all Google Gadgets related packages are totally updated to the latest version, from the KDE:KDE4:Factory repository.

Thanks,

the first view told me that everything is ok. Since it was not I have uninstalled everything bound to google, gadget, plasma, plasmoid. Sure a little too much but it helped. Intersting is I compared the list of installed software before and after this action and.... there is NO difference. Strange too me.

How every I am now trying to download the needed/wanted gadget but with no success. Can someone please tell me how I download this gadget: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?hl=de&mod ... source=ima

THanks a lot and a nice Sunday

Hi,

I found a little bit more info. It seems as if the installer for google gadget only accepts .gg files which are for Google Desktop, but the gadget i am trying to get isn't a Desktop
gadget, it's an iGoogle gadget. So there is a) not download option, and b) I have no clue if I can save the source code of the igoogle gadget and then install this. Seem that the installer needs a zip file in a specific format.
In case some one has an Idea how to put an igoogle gadget on the plasma dashboard so please let me know.

THanks a lot

looks to me the gadget isn't a desktop gadget, but a gadget for your personalized igoogle webpage..

I think it won't work indeed. It ain't a gadget to put on your desktop.

You could however file a wish on bugs.kde.org . I can't seem to find one yet but i guess more people could use this.

Since iGoogle gadgets are just HTML + Javascript with server side scripting, they can be embedded using the web browser Plasmoid.

Hi,

I tried a bit and found the following:

MAC dashboard gadets have all a huge boarder (app 1 inch!) this looks ugly - the gadget users the background color not the wallpaper to fill the boarder.

the web browser seems to have a problem to resize for the same igoogle window this is even more then doubble as big as the MAC dashbord gadgets.

I will now check out if the new js engine may can work together with the igoolge gadgets.

Hello,

It seems possible but the js enginge is not really ready at this time. I will wait and jump on the train as soon that the js engine is more finalized.

By and thanks
