Notification problem

Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:41 am
I have the following Notification problem, if I use ark and for some reason it doesn't extract and hangs the notification of the extracting will stand there on 0% and doesn't go away. There is no possibility to kill it because if you try it kills plasma and there is no other way to close it omly a reboot helps. Also all failed ark extract will show a empty ark window after reboot and the number of those windows grow after every failed attempt, and I can't find where those buggers hide. I have atm 10 windows of ark that are totally white. Every time I click them away with the close x button but every reboot they are back.

I also have it with moving files and for some reason it stops with moving a file I can't stop our pause that notification any more and the notification is there till you reboot.

And another side question why is moving files to/from a NTFS partition our deleting files on a NTFS partition slow in KDE, if I do it with MC in a console then it is fast.

With regard to Ark, logged out of KDE try removing your session files. Note that this process will remove the current state for KDE applications ( preferences and data are unaffected so close all applications such as Amarok before logging out )

The files are located at $KDEHOME/share/config/session
The notifications if they persist may require removing or manually editing plasma-appletsrc

Tried the session thing but the funny thing is that they are not in there, and the ark windows after reboot only come when I have had a failed ark extraction that hangs on 0%, then those windows come back with 1 extra. If i do a normal reboot without that i have had a failed ark extraction 0% attempt then it reboots normal without those windows.

A hanging ark I have mostly when the file already exist and try to extract again and overwrite that file.

Try removing ksmserverrc from $KDEHOME/share/config. This will need to be done outside a KDE session.

That solved the ark window problem after reboot, till the next time it happens. But i now know how the get them away.

But is this a ark bug our a notification bug? Looks for me like a combo bug.

It would be a Ark bug since it is Ark that sets the notification progress, etc. It appears that Ark is not very good at handling unexpected situations.
