How do you configure quick launch? The "add icon" command brings up a dialog box asking me to locate a .desktop file. Where would I find said file, and what would I do with it?
Thanks. |

it is a plasmoid (widget), you use the add widgets dialog (start it by right clicking on the desktop or on the cashew)

Thanks for the reply. I guess I wasn't clear, I have added, I want to add my own shortcuts to it. I right click on it, select "add icon" and I get a dialog box that is looking for a .desktop file. I don't know what a .desktop file is or how to use it to add a shortcut to the quick launch widget. |

You can drag and drop an application from Kickoff and it will be added. What is not configurable from GUI is the icon order - dragging them by mouse like in KDE3 doesn't work. But I believe it could be changed by changing *.desktop files order in $KDE_DIR/share/config/plasma* (Sorry I don't remember the filename where plasma applets are configured).

I had a problem with quicklaunch config, the icons were missing and I found that the settings are those of the desktop files in ~/.local/share/applications/ . This is KDE4.3 on Kubuntu, AMD64.
