missing plasmoids

Mon Feb 02, 2009 6:50 pm
Hi

I'm using kdemod 4.2 for arch linux and several of the plasmoids seem to be missing. they just show a big red cross and a message showing "this object could not be created for the following reason: could not find requested component" this applies to at least knewsticker, quickaccess and STDIN Plasmoid.

Is there a package kdeplasma-addons, which was probably not updated correctly?

turns out the problem was that the plasmoids in question were in some extragear packages that I didn't have installed. Strange that the system thought they were already there. Thanks anyway.

Kubuntu seem to have made the decision not to include kdeplasma-addons because they (or their dependencies) break Digikam.

Having tried some of the plasmoids in there, I'd say they've made the right decision; Digikam's considerably more useful.

All I can is: huh? I'm not using Kubuntu, but that seems VERY far-fetched if true. Especially since I'm using both Digikam and the kdeplasma-addons...

If your question is answered, please mark the thread as solved. Thanks in advance.

Well to quote the Kubuntu release notes,
Digikam will not install alongside these packages due to conflicting library versions.

And when I installed the addons to try them, Digikam was removed. And then the addons were removed when I re-installed Digikam.

beermad's response is correct. If you are using Kubuntu and have digikam installed then many plasmoids will not work and the error described in the OP will be shown - kdeplasma-addons won't play with digikam. I resolved this by uninstalling digikam. Unfortunately the kde4 version of digikam doesn't play well with KDE4 just yet...

Today's updates seemed to have fixed Digikam - plasmoids and Digikam will now play harmoniously!
