I'm using Gentoo AMD64 with KDE 4.2, and the applications are missing from my Kicker menu, I just get a blank panel.

It worked until I uninstalled Gnome, I don't know if it deleted a file it needed or not, but is there a way to get my applications menu back? I deleted .kde4, but it didn't help.

It only affects the search results, and the Applications Menu, the Computer, Recently Used, and Leave menus all work fine.

Your Sycoca might be corrupt. Try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental"

Just curious, does the traditional menu work?

Nope.

I think I'll try reinstalling KDE...

That shouldn't be necessary. It sounds like your desktop files were deleted. You could try and create a new user and see if it works.

As far as I know deleting .kde4 should fix it tough, so that's a little bit weird.

I can confirm deleting .kde4 from home folder is enough to restore kicker to normal
reinstalling kde is not needed

This is an old topic, however was one of the first results when I googled for it so I'm my solution here for future googlers.

My "applications" tab had nothing appearing in it, and rather than rm'ing all of my kde settings i just needed to remove /home/{user}/.kde/share/apps/kicker and relogin.
