Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:55 pm
I have xorg-server-1.5.3-r2; nvidia-drivers-96.43.10 and kde-4.2 installed.

My video card: GeForce MX 440 AGP 8x
Kernel version: 2.6.28-gentoo-r1

In my system KDE working very slow :'(.

X server and plasma are using ~20% CPU.
Code: Select all
PID USER      PR  NI  VIRT  RES  SHR S %CPU %MEM    TIME+  COMMAND
16254 root      20   0  140m  54m 5024 S 19.6  5.5   5:03.92 X
16471 master    20   0  261m  35m  19m S 17.3  3.5   2:08.55 plasma

I have try to use nv driver, but that not solved the problem.

I'm gentoo user.

Sorry for my English. :-$

I had indicated when KDE 4.0 released, that most bugs seems to be Qt bug, not KDE or display drivers, but it seems that no one believes that.

Well, time will tell. If you can try to upgrade to Qt 4.5 and see if anything improves.

Usually this is a result of over excessive painting by a Plasmoid. Which Plasmoids are you using?

I'm using Folder Viewer and System Monitor - CPU. I disabled SM - CPU, but X server use 20% CPU.

Maybe restarting Plasma will correct the problem. You may wish to destroy all its cache's at the same time ( located at $KDEHOME/cache-${'hostname'}/ )

Code: Select all
kquitapp plasma && sleep 5s && plasma &

I disables plasma, but X server uses ~20% CPU and KDE works very slow.

On Debian GNU/Linux KDE 4.2 works fast.

You NVidia drivers are terribly out of date. Please upgrade to the latest drivers available.

Legacy releases for GeForce 2 through GeForce 4 series GPUs
Stable: 96.43.07
Beta: 96.43.10

I'll try downgrade to xorg-server-1.4 (as in Debian) tomorrow...
