[SOLVED] Unremovable zombie icons in panel

Initially KDE 4.2 was great but a recent update has mucked things up. I had shortcuts on one of my panels to start programs with this update removed the link between icon and program, resulting in a row of blank icons on my panel. "No problem" i though and proceeded to remove the empty icons and add new ones.
The problem occurred the next time i logged out, the empty icons came back.
Based on a tip i found elsewhere i then removed my .kde4 folder. This made things worse. Not only were the old zombies still there. The shortcuts i had added had also turned into zombie icons. No matter what i do, i cannot get them to stay away after i log out.
Curiously deleting the .kde4 folder did not completely set my desktop environment either. The layout i had made and the plasmoids on the desktop were all still there.

Is there anything else i can do to get rid of my zombies?

I am using KDE4.2, completely updated from the Opensuse factory repos. The OS is Opensuse 11.1

Seems like many openSUSE users are affected by this.

Did you quit KDE or at least Plasma before removing .kde4? If not, try it.
Code: Select all
kquitapp plasma
rm -rf ~/.kde4
plasma &

Warning! This will erase all your KDE settings.

Since you already tried to remove .kde4 I guess it's not a problem for you, Caracalla. Otherwise, deleting $KDEHOME/share/config/plasm* should be enough to fix Plasma problems.

I did not.

That seems to have done the trick. I'm back to, almost, the default setup now. Many thanks.
Frankly, i am disappointed that a bug like this was allowed to sneak through.

It's an openSUSE specific problem, so KDE is not to blame here.

Gah! Ok, five minutes after the problem was solved, it's back. I now have an unremovable clock (added two by accident) and lancelot plasma on my panel.
Pretty aggravating.

Didn't say it was :)

ok, a new update seems to have solved the problem, unwanted elements seem to be staying away. I'm not touching that update button again any time soon.

Scratch that, the problem i back.

EDIT: and scratch again. I followed [url=taskbar-issues-t-33894.html#pid47225]this[/] tip and that does seem to have solved the problem. For some reason my system also seems faster
