Hi there,
I'm using KDE 4.2 and Plasma-wise I haven't had any crash so far... until now. All of a sudden I can't add widgets to my desktop anymore. I can add widgets to my panels without any problems, but when I try to add a widget to my desktop by clicking on "add widget" in the "Add Widgets" dialog, Plasma freezes completely meaning I can't click on any of my panel icons, Alt-F2 doesn't present krunner anymore and I can't switch windows using my taks bar. It's all frozen and dead. Only solution: alt+ctrl+backspace. I can add widgets to my Desktop under a new dummy user account without any problems. I've also noticed that all the widgets I wanted to add to my desktop when Plasma froze are shown with an hour glass in the widgets dialog now (even after rebooting my machine!!!): (notice the hour glass next to the Trashcan Widget) I've successfully added widgets to my desktop in the past. So what happened? Thanks for all your help in advance, Blackhole

hmm, i clearly remember having fixed that a bit before 4.2 branching, anyways can't reproduce in trunk..
does adding widgets by drag and drop from the widget list to the desktop work? |

Erm, crazy! I can drag and drop the widget to my desktop fine. I managed to drag and drop the Trashcan to my desktop, however when I removed it and tried again via the "add widget" button, Plasma froze. What's the matter? Is it a bug? I'm using KDE 4.2 under Arch Linux. So I assume I got all the latest patches as Arch is a rolling release distro. What does the hour glass next to the widget mean? //Edit: Just found this bug report Still the question. What does the hour glass mean? Does it indicate that plasma is trying to load this widget?

I think it indicates that the Applet has been used previously.

I think you're right. I've just checked plasmarc in "~/.kde4/share/config" and removed the trashcan from the attribute "used" in the category "applet browser". The hour glass vanished. Learn something every day. ^^ Well, then it's just waiting for some clever people removing the bug with the add button... Thanks a lot for your responses guys. |
